Bespoke Wardrobes - Interiors
One of the great things about designing bespoke wardrobes is the freedom it gives you to create units that are truly bespoke to customers’ needs.
As a fitted furniture maker, we have many options at our disposal when we design custom built wardrobes and this versatility extends to interiors too. From both an aesthetic and functional perspective, wardrobe interiors can be completely customised through a combination of rails, shelves, storage and lighting.
We’ll look at how these different elements can be utilised to create the perfect unit, whatever your needs may be.
Rails
When it comes to hanging rails, there are more possibilities than you might think. A great example is our recent bespoke wardrobe commission below, where we’ve neatly incorporated 7 hanging sections in varying widths, heights and shapes.
High and wide hanging rails are perfect for storing larger items, such as coats and suits, as well as items that you don’t want to get creased. Wide rails also give you the option of being able to neatly organise your clothes by purpose, colour or season.
Curved hanging rails are a great design choice for maximising the use of awkward corner spaces - perfect for hanging jumpers and shirts.
Narrow rails, such as the one on the far right of the image below, are ideal for storing accessories that you don’t want to get buried amongst your larger items. For example, you may want to keep your ties, scarves and belts separate and easily accessible.
Shelves
Shelves are the most versatile component of a fitted wardrobe, as their height, width, depth and angle can be adapted to fit the space you have available. Shelves are particularly useful for when you have an awkwardly shaped space, such as when your fitted wardrobe is built into an alcove.
Shelves are the obvious choice for when you need to stack jumpers, t-shirts and other items of clothing that don’t always need to be hung. They can also provide convenient space for you to store larger items, such as suitcases or rucksacks, which can easily be facilitated through increasing the distance between each shelf in your custom-built wardrobe.
Storage
If you’re a lover of accessories, jewellery or shoes, then wardrobe storage options are likely to be high up on your list when you’re thinking about your dream wardrobe.
Drawers are a staple part of many wardrobe designs, providing convenient storage for smaller items. However, what many people overlook is that the functionality of standard drawers can be enhanced immensely through the integration of custom-built organisers. Organisers allow you to keep your items separated and easy to access, so no more rummaging around for your socks!
If you’ve got an impressive shoe collection on the other hand, there are several options available to you. If you’d prefer for your footwear to be concealed then you can opt for built-in trays or storage boxes. If you want to display your collection then opt for tiered shoe racks, which allow you to store many pairs while keeping them easily accessible.
Lighting
Lighting is typically installed in bespoke wardrobes through either spot lights or LED strips. Each style has it’s own range of benefits and you should choose the style based on your own needs. Motion sensors can be utilised so that the lights only come on when the sensor detects the doors opening, so the energy consumption is low and so is the cost!
Benefits of spot lights:
Focusses the light on a particular area
Easier to install in a recessed area
Can be used to accentuate a particular decorative design
Benefits of strip lights:
Provides a more even source of light
Customisable length
More colour options
More versatility in where they can be applied
Whichever style you choose, it will certainly help you find those clothes that can be difficult to see in big wardrobes or in the dark!
